Media Release: Launch STS 2030
After two years of groundwork, Swiss Textiles, amfori and Swiss Fair Trade launch the new program Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030 (STS 2030) in partnership with the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the federal Office for the Environment (FOEN). The program aims to contribute significantly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Swiss textile and clothing sector along the entire value chain.
Effective Targets and Measures
In close cooperation with companies in the textile sector, civil society organisations as well as experts and representatives of the public sector, the program will define common sustainability targets and measures until March 2021. Thereafter, STS 2030 will enter the implementation phase and will continuously monitor progress.
Common Objective: Sustainable Development Goals 2030
The program STS 2030 aims to collaborate with all actors of the Swiss textile and clothing sector to achieve the ambitious Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Stakeholders of the Swiss textile and clothing sector are invited to visit the landing page www.sts2030.ch to contribute to the mapping and the definition of the targets for 2030.
A broadly-based program
Responsible bodies for the program are the three associations Swiss Textiles, amfori and Swiss Fair Trade. They aim to foster synergies through their collaboration and are open for the consortium to be extended. The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) provides financial support for the program and, together with the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), offers strategic support through their participation in the steering committee. The office is run by the sustainability firm ecos.
A responsible and future proof textile and clothing sector
The program supports actors in the Swiss textile and clothing sector to act in a socially and environmentally responsible manner along their entire supply chain and to implement transparent sustainability measures in their organizations. With a large part of textile production being carried out outside of Switzerland, the program will at the same time be internationally coordinated and specifically tailored to the requirements of the Swiss context.
